ACM Distinguished Speakers Program: talks by and with technology leaders and innovators

Machine learning and its applications

Speakers: Oge Marques
Topic(s): Artificial Language/Machine Learning,Emerging Technologies,Knowledge Discovery in Data,Science & Computing

This talk provides an overview of machine learning concepts, techniques and applications.
The field of machine learning has experienced significant growth during the past 20 years and has become the most visible and successful branch of artificial intelligence (AI). More recently, the emergence of a machine learning paradigm known as deep learning has enabled the development of intelligent systems that can, in many cases, demonstrate better-than-human performance. Combined, these developments have resulted in an unparalleled and unprecedented state of affairs, where many challenging research problems are being solved and new market opportunities have started to emerge. This lecture covers concepts, tools, technologies, best practices, and applications of machine learning, with emphasis on the recent impact of increasingly popular deep learning techniques on outstanding problems in computer vision and related disciplines.
