3D Body Shape, and My Underwear Crisis

Speakers: Sandy Ressler
Topic(s): Application Oriented Computing,Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques,Measurement & Evaluation

Abstract

Body shape can have interesting consequences and characterizing these shapes can have a significant impact on a number of industries not to mention your underwear! This talk will present the result of mischaracterized body shape and how they affect sizing systems for clothing. One solution to these problems is the use of true 3D shape data gathered from full body laser scans. Ressler relates his experience shopping for underwear (it was annoyingly traumatic!) as the basis for illustrating the numerous issues of working with body shape and the problems encountered by the apparel industry and consumers.
